Before & After
Some of the best contractors we’ve ever hired. Ultra friendly people, super responsive, and did incredible work. We had them install tile for our backsplash, and they did a super job! It’s so great when you find people that really care, it makes working with them so great.
We finally (finally) got these projects done. Yay! PhD Home Solutions came to the rescue! They do excellent wall tile work plus other odds and ends. They mounted a bathroom cabinet and ceramic tiled its wall, installed a countertop and wall tile toilet in our laundry, removed an old and replaced with new toilet, and did some detail trim work under our main entry door. Fast response, super nice folks, efficient, detailed, fast and they know what they’re doing really, really well. PhD’s prices are reasonable. The owners Paul and Carrie are fabulous and we highly recommend them to anyone who needs work done in the home. Kudos!
Carrie, Paul and their son Jackson were an absolute joy to work with and did an amazing job on our kitchen backsplash. I received their name from the Tile Shop and Carrie called me back within an hour of me calling them. She even came over the same day to take a look at the work we wanted done. They were super flexible with me when our job was scheduled for the next day and I decided I hated the tile I picked out! They worked me back in within a few weeks. When they came out, the demo was very clean and Carrie has a great eye for where each tile should go. Highly professional, very friendly and the job was completed perfectly! Recommend them to anyone!
If you are looking for an efficient and reasonably priced company to install your tile backsplash or accent wall your search is over if you go with PhD Home Solutions. Paul and Carrie Dunbar have been in business for about 29 years. Their easy-going approach makes the project take shape without totally disrupting your life. The quality of their work is outstanding. I would not hesitate to hire them again for future projects.
PhD did a great job with our backsplash and island tiling. The whole process was seamless, and I couldn't be more happy with the experience and the end result. Paul and Carrie are responsive, reliable and professional. We ordered the tiles from Tile Shop, and they picked up the tile and installed it in 3 days. I would highly highly recommend them.
Paul and Carrie did a herringbone backsplash in my kitchen. Their work is literal perfection. I was given their name by The Tile Shop in Scottsdale. I was amazed how they carried the pattern around the corners of our kitchen. I highly recommend them. They cleaned everything up each day and were timely and professional. We remodeled our whole kitchen and they were by far the most professional part of our process. Highly recommend.
Paul did a complete remodel on our master bathroom shower and it turned out very nice. I would recommend him.

This is a 3x6 beveled white marble backsplash in a kitchen and casita in Peoria. We also changed out all of the outlets and switches to blend with the tile better.
This is a repair project of a very large 30"x60" porcelain tile. Before, during and after pics. The tile has a big chip in the middle from a heavy cast iron stove grate. I cut it into pieces with my cordless wet saw, then we dug the tile and thinset out, made a template, cut the new tile and replaced it.
Swipe for a before pic. 2'x4' large format porcelain tiles with a very cool texture. It's a little over 5' wide and 13'+ at its peak.
Multi textured porcelain panels framed with liners on the exposed edges.
12x24 black porcelain tile straight stacked with a cool textured tile on the bench and in the niches. Linear drain with a polished chrome drain.
Guest bathroom with a fun shower and sleek floor. The shower has 16x47 tile with a fun pattern. The shower floor is 3/4"x6" strips and a black drain that blends in very well.
Marble herringbone tile on this backsplash for a repeat customer. Templated cut and installed. Two day project
This is a backsplash we did about a year ago, I think they were waiting for cabinet doors so here we are.
This is one of our favorite fireplace jobs ever. These are 4'x4' porcelain tiles from @thetileshop with black Dural trim. If you make it to the end you'll see a backward transformation to the before picture. We filled in a recess to make a large flat wall.
This is a fireplace in a home getting a full remodel. The 4x4 tiles are mitered on all corners and the large stone tiles on the hearth are mitered as well.
Update on a previous post. Our customer did a German schmeer on her ugly brick hood and I helped her trim it with this black wood trim. What a big difference. It really makes our tile work pop too.
Sneak peak at a tub surround with a nice sized niche. A special thanks to our helper dogs who were always there to lick our legs as we walked by.
This was an adventure for us. More pictures to come. Happy Saturday!
Revisit to a backsplash we did a few years ago. They actually changed the granite and saved the backsplash. Kudos to the solid surface guys that pulled that off.
More and better pictures to follow but I couldn't wait to post this super cool backsplash. My favorite is the black hex tiles behind the stove. They are changing the hood so when that is complete we'll get better pics
Very cool 8" hexagons on this modern backsplash. I love the way it goes with the hood.
Nice clean straight stacked glass backsplash with Dural trim. The customer has the outlets moved up which really helps the clean simple look.
Two sides of the same cultured stone fireplace. This was done 12 years ago and still looks great today
3x12 shabby chic wood look tile. Tons of character without overpowering the room.
This is a stacked stone fireplace with mitered corners and 18x18 marble used for the hearth and mantle. One shot preview of the bathroom. There will be more pictures of that at the end of the month
This is about 150 square feet of a 2x6 straight stacked shower with a solid surface bench top, niche shelves and curb. Cool hex tiles on the floor.
7x13 Dark Chalk Rhombus with #ardex Charcoal Mist grout. The customer faux finished her outlet covers so they really blend in.
Shower floor transformation. This was a great way to revitalize this shower. The walls were nice and modern but the floor was pretty plain. A new square drain and basket weave tile pattern did the trick.
Love these patterned tiles from #tileshop. There are four patterns and three colors that Emma blended. Check out Jack's outlet cut on the left side. It's in the middle of the tile and he did it with an 8" tile saw.
Fun feature wall we did four years ago. We're doing more work here this week.
Glass and metal hexagons around the window trimmed with black Schluter
This is a mural over the outdoor fireplace and we also did the teal border and curb on the fountain. Both projects really livened up the area.
This is the first video we've done showing a little of a backsplash installation from start to finish. Or as Carrie called it, "before, during and after." We hope to stream line this process but https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=75onFXReK50
This is 2x12 ceramic tile with undulated edges set in a herringbone pattern
4x12 white ceramic subway tile with mitered corners and black dural trim.
We did this a few months ago but I always like to see it dressed up by the customer. We are doing another project at her house today. 2x4 porcelain with white Dural trim.
This was a small but very rewarding job. We got to add color and dress up these three outdoor features. We added the flower tiles with trim to the fireplace. We also did the green and teal borders to the existing fountains.
2x4 travertine trimmed with hand cut and polished 12" travertine
Classic white 3x6 subway trimmed with square pencil liners.

The center is an 8x8 patterned tile and the outsides are 2x4 marble. We matched the existing pattern from the backsplash. The homeowners added the super cool lights.
16"x48" wave patterned tile on this great feature wall.
3x12 ceramic tile with a marble vignette behind the stove.
Large format porcelain tiles with black Dural edges. I posted this before but everything around it was torn up so I wanted to show it in all it's glory.
